Patents in Israel

The practice of patent law in Israel is of prime importance to our attorneys who maintain responsibility for the filing and successful prosecution of patent applications in Israel on behalf of companies from around the world in a variety of disciplines. Our entire staff works together to develop synergy that ensures maximum patent protection in an efficient and professional manner. We aim to provide the quality that we expect to receive for our Israeli clients when seeking patent registration abroad.

Our Israel Patent practice is headed by Patent Attorney Jeremy Ben-David who has more than 25 years experience, and Patent Attorney Shimon Shalit, a former examiner at the Israel Patent Office who has comprehensive knowledge of formalities within the Israel Patent Office. Senior staff members are Dr. Moshe Tritel and Dr. Irving Treitel who are supported by our other patent attorneys, attorneys at law, and a dedicated team of paralegals.

Patents Around the World

At JMB Davis Ben-David we use our knowledge and capabilities to draft patent applications to assist you in building a patent portfolio. This includes advice on what, when and where to file.

Obtaining meaningful patent protection is complicated. The firm you ultimately choose must have more than just the technical ability to draft patents.

JMB Davis Ben-David offers:

  • Excellent grasp of a variety of fields in technology and science. Our Attorneys have impressive credentials in fields ranging from chemistry and biology to electrical and civil engineering.

  • Impressive knowledge of the law pertaining to what may be patented and the procedures involved. All of our Attorneys are licensed in Israel, the US or in both jurisdictions. We have professional experience both in drafting application and in conducting examination in many countries, normally in conjunction with selected foreign associates.

  • Awareness of legal issues regarding inventorship. This includes inventions coming from academia as well as those developed as the result of an agreement between two entities that are not otherwise connected. Our staff has an excellent legal team proficient in advising clients in matters of ownership.

  • Up-to-date with changes in law and practice worldwide. We convey this vital information to our clients in a clear and timely manner. We have a network of over 800 patent and law firms in more than 70 countries. They regularly provide the firm with updates that are relevant to IP practice in their countries. Five members of our staff are qualified to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. They ensure that we are always up to date with essential changes in US patent law.

  • Proven experience in registering patents internationally. Under the guidance of Jeremy Ben-David and Sharon Harris-Hadasi we have been filing international PCT applications since implementation in Israel in 1995. Supported by our experienced paralegal staff, over the past 18 years we have filed applications in more than 70 countries. This includes the US, Europe, China, Japan, India, Canada and Australia.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. We are aware that our clients have pressures and deadlines in their businesses that often translate into last minute instructions or requests. We are proud of our flexibility and our ability to get the job done on time.

  • Communicate with and guide clients who are scientists and engineers. We recognize that clients may have limited experience in patents. You come to us because we have patent expertise and can provide guidance that meets your needs. We offer professional seminars and publish newsletters in English and Hebrew. Our goal is to explain and discuss issues that need to be highlighted. We constantly update our clients on the different stages of their patent applications as well as changes in law that may affect them.

  • Awareness of the realities of doing business and being prepared to help companies plan realistic patent budgets. Start-ups in particular often have limited resources. This is especially true in the early stages when they need to set a course for protecting their inventions by filing patent applications. At JMB Davis Ben-David we use both the tools that are built in to the patent system as well as our own special Start-Up Program to help new companies file the patent applications they need while recognizing their financial constraints.
